What is a Walking Taco?
A walking taco is typically a small bag of corn chips with chili and toppings added to it. We are changing things up a bit with a pretzel-tastic twist on walking tacos bags using pretzel nuggets as the base. We also have some fun ideas for changing up the flavor profile on the filling to pair with some of our fan favorite savory pretzels.
Why You and Your Guests Will Love Walking Taco Bags
- Fun - Walking tacos are fun to eat! You can fill your walking taco bag with the toppings you prefer. Then, walk around and chat while you eat or find a spot on the couch and watch the big game while you munch.Â
- Easy - Walking tacos are simple to make and they make clean-up a snap.Â
- Customizable - Each person can top their walking taco bag with what they like best.Â
What’s Inside Walking Taco Bags?
The Base - This is the crunchy element and the container for your walking tacos. OMG! Pretzels are perfect for this thanks to our 3-ounce bags. The light, airy crunch of our sourdough pretzel nuggets gives a lot of texture to the walking tacos and our culinary-inspired seasoning blends add flavor, elevating the walking taco experience.
The Filling - Traditionally, walking taco bags are filled with taco meat or homemade chili. This pairs perfectly with our Cheddar Jalapeno pretzels. If you are wanting to change things up a bit, you could do pulled chicken in buffalo or barbeque sauce with Buffalo pretzels or Italian sausage in marinara with our Garlic pretzels. Whatever filling you choose, it should be saucy enough to get to the bottom of the walking taco bag without being too messy.
The Toppings - You should choose fixings that match the flavor profile of your walking taco bags. So, if you’re going traditional, toppings should include sour cream, shredded cheese, cilantro, shredded lettuce, salsa, chopped tomatoes and maybe some lime wedges. If you want to play up the Buffalo wing vibe, toppings can include blue cheese crumbles, ranch dressing, scallions and chopped bacon. For the Italian route, chopped parsley, shredded mozzarella, olives, and giardiniera complete the walking taco bags.
How to Make Walking Tacos
- Prep the walking taco bags. Before your guests arrive, cut the tops off of the grab-and-go bags that you plan to use. Be sure to cut just above the OMG! So that there’s plenty of room in the walking tacos bag for yummy fixings! Set out one per person, but have extras on hand in case someone wants seconds.Â
- Make the filling. For savory walking tacos, you’ll want to make a homemade chili or taco meat filling with either ground beef, ground turkey or plant-based substitute.Â
- Set up the walking taco bar. This is the creative part! Place your warm filling out in a pretty pot with the top on to keep the filling warm. Nearby, stand up your walking taco bags using the pot for support. If you are using more than one variety of seasoned sourdough pretzel nuggets, we like to keep the same flavor OMG! Pretzels in a row, so that guests know what they are grabbing. Now, you’re ready for the toppings; place small bowls around the pot and bags and fill them with whatever goodies you’ve chosen. Be sure to add spoons for serving.
- Build your walking tacos. When it’s time to eat, guests will grab a walking taco bag, add a spoonful of the warm filling and then top with the fixings they like the most.
A Sweet Twist on Walking Tacos
Did you know? We have two sweet varieties available in mini bags, so you can make walking tacos for dessert!Â
If you are opting for sweet walking tacos:

What to Serve with Walking Taco Bags
You’ll want to have plenty of cold drinks on hand when serving savory walking tacos. Lemonade, sodas and cold beer are great options for refreshing drinks that pair well with the seasoning blends in our Buffalo, Garlic and Cheddar Jalapeno pretzel nuggets.
If you’re making dessert walking tacos, have coffee and hot tea available along with water. You can also have a sparkling wine bar available for guests to complement the sweet notes in our Sweet & Salty and Salty Butterscotch pretzel nuggets.Â

- 8 ounces sour cream
- 8 ounces salsa
- 8 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ head of iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1 bunch cilantro, chopped
- 2 limes cut into wedges
Instructions
- Prep the walking taco bags by cutting off the tops.
- Prep the area where you will set up the walking taco bar with bowls to toppings, napkins, silverware, etc.
- Chop the toppings and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Make the filling. Warm the oil over low heat in a heavy pot with a lid and add the onion, cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Increase the heat to medium and add the ground meat; cook for about 10 minutes, breaking up the meat as you stir. Add the poblano, chili powder, cumin and salt/pepper; combine. Decrease heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes with the lid on.NOTE: You want this to be warm when you serve it, so make it about 15 minutes before guests arrive.
