Quality ingredients are really important when a recipe is super simple like this mustard dip for pretzels.
Dijon mustard is the ideal mustard for this pretzel dip because it doesn’t overpower the roasted garlic but still has the tang and sharpness you expect from mustard. You can opt for a grainy mustard if you prefer the bite from the mustard seeds. Spicy brown mustard could also work for this pretzel mustard dip, but you’ll need to add an extra tablespoon of mayonnaise to balance the flavors out. Yellow mustard isn’t the right ingredient for this dip recipe.
Choose a large head of garlic for this mustard sauce for pretzels because you’ll want plenty of the smashed garlic running through the dip. Try to find one that doesn’t seem overly dry; if it is, you may need to roast the garlic a bit longer to ensure it’s soft.
To make this mustard dip for pretzels recipe vegan, use a vegan mayonnaise instead of a traditional one. You could also use a soy-based plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise for a bit of a lighter feel.
