Let’s be honest, Thanksgiving is THE food holiday. Sure, it’s about family and friends, football, and being grateful for all we have, but food is the centerpiece of this delicious day. In fact, some people call it “Turkey Day”! So, to help you get ready to celebrate those you love, here are some easy pretzel hors d’oeuvres you can treat your guests to on Thanksgiving.
Make Ahead Pretzel Hors D’oeuvres
Cut down on your stress level and have fun with your guests when you serve these make ahead appetizers.
Baked Goat Cheese Dip
There are a few variations you can do for this option. The basic premise is to soften the goat cheese and lightly season it, then top it with preserves and bake it until itโs warm and easily dippable. We like the flavor combinations featured in this Food & Wine recipe. Our Garlic, Lemon Pepper, and Chesapeake Spice pretzels would all work perfectly with this warm and delicious dip!
Stuffed Mushrooms
For this, cremini or button mushrooms work best because they have space to hold your tasty filling. Cream cheese and chives or parmesan, mascarpone and thyme make flavorful pairings with the mushrooms. PRO TIP: Roast your mushrooms before you fill them to release the moisture they hold and then let them come to room temp before you fill them. The final and most delicious step is topping them with crushed OMG! Pretzels! Choose the flavor that matches your filling best, but we think Garlic Pretzels are the forerunner for this tasty and easy pretzel hors d’oeuvre.
Chicken or Turkey Liver Mousse
This recipe is a bit more challenging but is worth it in flavor and holiday cheer. We tried this recipe with a Southern twistย of pickled shallots and loved it. Of course, we think you should forego making your own crostini and serve this elegant mousse with OMG! Pretzels. Our Lemon Pepper sourdough nuggets add a brightness to the rich appetizer.
Family Favorites
If you have lots of children in your family, be sure to have some easy pretzel hors d’oeuvres that they will enjoy as well.
Pretzel, Cheese and Apple Turkeys
Let the kids play with their food while they make their own tasty and healthy pretzel hors d’oeuvres. Give each child a small wheel of cheese [HINT: we used Babybel because it’s mild and self-contained], some apple slices and a handful of OMG! Pretzels. Then, they can use the cheese to create the turkey’s face and the apple slices and sourdough pretzels nuggets to create the feathers. It’s a fun, eat-as-you-go appetizer!
Sweet Potato Bites
Bake small, thin rounds of sweet potatoes for about 10 minutes on 425 degrees until they are tender and a little crispy. Then, let them cool and place them on a platter. Create a bar for everyone to top the sweet potatoes as they like. We suggest including some savory toppings like cheese, green onions, and crรจme fraiche. For even more yummy fun, add some sweet toppings to the mix; mini marshmallows, dried cranberry and Sweet & Salty OMG! Pretzels top our list!
Thanksgiving Trail Mix
This one is easy and great for kids to grab a handful of before running off to play or to put out by the bar for the adults to enjoy. Plus, you can customize it for your taste. We recommend starting with pepitas, slivered almonds and pecans. Toss them with maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. Bake them until crunchy. Then, add in dried cranberries and apples. Finally, complete the crunch element with Sweet & Spicy OMG! Pretzels.
We hope your family has a happy and healthy Thanksgiving full of wonderful memories and tasty eats!
