Relax & Snack

We’ve all heard the phrase “you need a little R&R” before, and we think no rest and relaxation is complete without ridiculously delicious snacks to accompany you. And, with Labor Day around the corner, you have a built-in excuse to unplug – relax and snack!

Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. This year, it’s on September 6. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. So, for 127 years Americans have been enjoying this day off with family and friends.

Whether you use the time to take a long weekend trip to the beach or lake for some fun in the sun, or simply take the time to stay home and get some much-needed rest, let yourself have a little fun with snacks. Often, Labor Day is seen as the last holiday of the summer, so it’s a great excuse to hang outside, maybe have a barbeque, so we thought of a few OMG! yummy snacks to serve before dinner to celebrate:

  • Corn Salsa: This chunky dip is super simple to make and pairs well with our Cheddar Jalapeño Pretzels. Thaw a bag of frozen corn, add a diced jalapeño, 2 small diced tomatoes, a diced avocado and a can of black beans (rinsed). Then add some chopped cilantro, the juice of a lime, and salt and pepper to taste.
  •  Stuffed Zucchini Boats: This is very versatile and can be an appetizer or side dish. Cut the zucchinis in half vertically; then scoop out the seeds and enough flesh so that you have a well in the middle. This is where it gets fun! You can add cheese, herbs, ground meat, or tofu to the centers. Then put them on a sheet pan and bake them at 350 for about 20 minutes; you can also grill them until the zucchini are tender. For a crunchy top, crush up the OMG! Pretzels flavor that most complements your fillings and enjoy!
  • Stuffed Mini Peppers: These are a cute and colorful appetizer. First, cut off the tops and remove the seeds and membranes. We like to lightly grill or roast the small peppers before filling them. For the filling, you can do goat cheese and honey or an herbed cream cheese. For something a little lighter, you could do mashed avocado or hummus. For crunch, sprinkle on a few pine nuts and, of course, some crushed pieces of your OMG! Pretzels to the top of each mini pepper.
  • Deviled Eggs: This traditional appetizer is always a crowd pleaser! To serve them outside, we like to place the platter on a bed of ice. We always jazz up the flavors a bit by adding bacon or pimentos to the filling. We also can’t resist adding OMG! Lemon Pepper Pretzels to the top of each one for crunch and adding zing!

No matter how you celebrate Labor Day, enjoy the day off – relax and snack!
